Counsel for four of the judicial staff implicated in the corruption exposé, Mr Egbert Faibille Jr, says it will be highly unethical to publicly screen the video, since it contains the images of children of some of the judges.
He said the footage when screened would be a “permanent record” that would unfairly expose the identities of innocent minors to the whole world.
“Are we going to show the children to the world all because one of their parents was engaged in a discussion with someone?” he asked.
“We are talking about permanent records,” he said, and suggested that the heightened frenzy of the intended public showing of the video should be toned down.
Mr Faibille Jr was speaking to the media after he and his legal team, as well as their clients, had watched the video with the Judicial Secretary, Mr Justice Alex B. Poku-Acheampong, yesterday.
Ethical sensibilities
However, he said there were some sensibilities and ethical considerations to the whole scandal.
“From what I have seen in one or two videos, certain considerations ought to be recognised in portions of what took place behind and around them which had been taken off.”
“Based on the consideration, there is no equitable basis for the video to be shown to the public,” he added.
Legal process
“My legal team and I as well as our clients have watched the video and I think, from what we saw, the video should not be a conclusive basis to find anybody guilty,” he stated.
He gave an assurance that after watching the video with his clients and receiving certain documentation from the Judicial Service, they would file their response as soon as possible.
