Two men who have been robbing and terrorizing residents and fuel filling stations at gun point have been declared wanted by the Northern Region Command of the Ghana Police Service.

The assailants who are yet to be identified, according to the Police, always attack their victims wearing military uniforms and fully armed with sophisticated weapons.

They are said to be operating within the Tamale Metropolis.

The duo, according to ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Northern Regional Police Command, had successfully robbed three fuel filling stations in the region with their mode of operations very unsuspecting.

According to ASP Tetteh, the two men always dressed in military uniforms wielding very advanced weapons (AK 47 guns), go to the filling station and tell them they have been sent by the command to search for weapons they believed are concealed in the premises.

The Police PRO said because the armed robbers looked calm and reassured, their victims willingly comply with their demands.

“They will direct the victims to open their offices table drawers and finally ask them to lead to them to where they keep their daily earnings. After identifying where their monies are kept, the armed robbers lead their victims to a room within the premises, lock them inside and take their money and run away,” he noted.

The Police, he said, have received three reported cases of such incidents in Yendi (Yendi Municipality), Sawla (Damango District) and Gurigu in the Tamale Metropolis.

In all the reported cases, the armed robbers, according to the Police, made away with thousands of Ghana Cedis, especially, for the Yendi and Sawla cases.

In the Garigu case, the armed robbers made away with GH₵2,000.00 and a number of mobile phones.

ASP Tetteh said the Police are worried at the increasing number of incidents where criminals use state security apparatus to perpetuate crime.

He has therefore cautioned all fuel filling stations to stay alert and report any suspicious move to the Police through their hotlines, he noted, have been provided.

He said managers, care takers and even sales personnel must demand the identification cards of such people when they come to them.

They must also see to it that such people are using branded vehicles of the institutions they claim to come from.

That aside, the Police have also advised that management of fuel filling stations must invest in the security management of their businesses by furnishing their premises with CCTV cameras.

“All safes must be emptied at all times after sales to serve as discouragement to these criminals,” ASP Tetteh added.
