Horror at Spanish rally race as car veers off track and ploughs into the crowd at high speed, killing six including two pregnant women and an eight-year-old child


Six people have been killed and sixteen others injured after a racing car flew off the track and crashed into spectators during a high-speed rally in Spain.

Two pregnant women and an eight-year-old child have both been confirmed amongst the fatalities, with six of those wounded in hospital with serious injuries.

Spanish media reports that it was being driven by local man Sergio Tabeayo Sande, nicknamed Tisi, who was in the car with co-pilot Luis Miguel Prego.


Organisers immediately suspended the race - in which more than 100 participants were competing - in the wake of the incident.

Among the casualties confirmed so far are four women and two men, one of whom was a child aged eight.

Three of the dead are thought to be from Cambre, near to the scene of the tragedy, with one of the pregnant women said to have been killed understood to be nine months pregnant.

Her partner was also reported to have died.

The Toyota Breogán racing team, who were taking part in the race, also paid their own tribute.

In an online post, they said: 'We send our deepest sympathy to the families of the victims of the Rally Coruña‬ accident which occurred this afternoon.
