UDS STUDENT EXCELS



In pursuance of a dream to empower the disabled through skills training and financial assistance, a level 300 student of the School of Allied Health Sciences, Ms. Mabel Suglo has inevitably made history by becoming the first student from UDS and the third from Ghana to be shortlisted as a finalist of the Anzisha Prize Competition scheduled to take place in South Africa in November, 2015.

The prestigious Anzisha price seeks to award young entrepreneurs who have developed and implemented innovative solutions to social challenges or started successful businesses within their communities. An amount ofSeventy Five Thousand Dollars ($75, 000) is to be shared among three (3) outstanding finalists in the competition. Anzisha is hosted by the African Leadership Academy and Powered by the MasterCard Foundation.

Ms. Suglo who co-founded Eco-shoes Social Enterprise to offer skills training and job opportunities to the disabled is one of Twelve(12) applicants out of a total of Five Hundred (500) to be shortlisted for the finals of the Anzisha Competition. She has partnered Jachai School for the Disabled in the Ashanti Region to train the physically challenged to produce shoes, using waste materials such as used lorry tyres.

The prospective Anzisha Price Winner intends to use her award to acquire new state-of-the-art equipment for her business, employ more disabled persons, build a warehouse, and construct an interactive website.
