President John Mahama has asked Ghanaians to pay a little more for electricity if they expect to enjoy uninterrupted power supply.
He said the current tariff is unrealistic, stressing that the dynamics in the energy mix have changed.
President Mahama who was speaking on GBC Garden City Radio in Kumasi as part of his Changing lives and Transforming Ghana tour noted that due to shortage of water in the country’s dams other expensive sources are being relied upon for power.
He said borrowing is not peculiar to Ghana and that it is not true that giving the current debt portfolio, the country cannot borrow anymore.
President Mahama contended that the proceeds from the loans are being used to prosecute the country’s development agenda.
President Mahama pleaded with traders and other stakeholders to bear with government as it reconstructs the Kumasi Central Market which he described as a major trading hub.
He emphasised the need for a modern market to serve the needs of Ghanaians and foreigners alike.
President Mahama said education remains a critical component in the country’s quest to develop.
Government has therefore made adequate investment in that sector.
On whom his Vice President will be President Mahama said he is not the party’s candidate yet.
He admitted that he has already chosen someone, but approval will be made on consultation with the National Executive Committee.
